In either case, you can always call in a professional handyperson to ensure these tasks are completed properly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recommend having an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abuyerschoice.com\/benefit-spring-home-maintenance-inspection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">annual home maintenance inspection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure you remain informed of any issues that may creep up in your home. After all, addressing issues early is the key to avoiding hefty repair bills!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following checklist will help guide you in keeping your home a safe and healthy place to live this fall and throughout the coming year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Fall Checklist:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arrange furnace or heating system servicing with qualified company \u2013 annually for oil furnace and every two years for gas furnace<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open furnace humidifier damper on units with central air conditioning and clean humidifier<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lubricate circulating pump on hot water heating system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bleed air from hot water radiators<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examine forced air furnace fan belt for wear, looseness or noise. Disconnect electricity to the motor and clean fan blades<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn ON gas furnace pilot light<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check and clean or replace furnace air filters each month throughout heating season. Ventilation systems, such as heat recovery ventilator filters, should be checked every two months\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vacuum electric baseboard heaters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove grills on forced air systems and vacuum inside ducts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If heat recovery ventilator has been shut off for summer, clean filters and core, and pour water down condensate drain to test it<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean portable humidifier, if applicable<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have well water tested for quality. It\u2019s recommended to test for bacteria every six months<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check sump pump and line to ensure proper operation and that there are no line obstructions or visible leaks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replace window screens with storm windows<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove screens from inside casement windows to allow air from heating system to keep condensation off window glass<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure all doors leading outside are shut tightly, and check other doors for ease of use. Replenish door weather stripping as required<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there is a door between your house and garage, check adjustment of self-closing device to ensure it completely closes door<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure windows and skylights close tightly<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cover outside air conditioning units<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure ground around your home slopes away from foundation wall, so water doesn\u2019t drain into basement\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean leaves from eavestroughs and roof, and test downspouts to ensure proper drainage from roof<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check chimneys for obstructions such as nests<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drain and store outdoor hoses.
