Aiaian isle

This was the island that the minor goddess/witch Kirke was banished to by the King of Kolkhis. In Homer's world he meant to locate it close to Kolkhis and close and beciase the goddess Dawn had a palace there. Apollonios Rhodios is more specific in Jason and the Argonauts and locates the island in moder day Elba and goes out of his way to mention the great distance between Kolkhis and the Aiaian island. Robert Graves places it near modern day Croatia and Tome Severin as Paxos off the west coast of Greece

In any case it was here where Odysseus spends a year and given where is has come from and where he next gets to, then Elba looks to be as good a choice as any other
