ETL stands for Extract, Translate and Load and refers to the process by which data from one system is migrated to another system with the the use of a third party application to map the data extract. Some of the ETL tools are proprietary to ceratin applications. For Instance IFS used a migration toolkit. You can also use off the shelf applications like Testcomplete to undertake the translation. Alternatively you can write the mapping interface yourself and extract and load the data using common data source formats like ASCII and CSV
