Lot Description
A Dutch tortoiseshell and ivory box with silver equipage. Marks for 1839 Of rectangular form, with mother-of-pearl escutcheon, the interior fitted with twelve silver tea-spoons and ivory and silver tea-strainer and five demi tasse spoons 7½ in. (19 cm.) wide; 2 in. (5 cm.) high.

Condition
The box- in good decorative condition. The hinged cover with a crack or fault in the shell some other tiny nicks along the cover, the ivory with some light staining. The fitted velvet interior faded and worn- the tea strainer associated to the set

Literature
Spoons are possibly by Hendrik Buysen. He was a master Dutch silversmith working in Amsterdam from 1786 - 1796. His speciality was tea sets, church silver and handbells.
