At first I was looking through recommendations for inspectors on forums, but the past inspector we hired was not very helpful.I’m leaving a glowing review for this one because they really took the time to think and talk through a gameplan with me on certain problematic warranty items. I’m really grateful for that. They weren’t just like, here’s a bunch of problems, good luck arguing with the builder. When we met resistance from the builder, these guys knew the warranty process, they explained which arguments to make, what traps not to fall for when the warranty rep tried to misrepresent the coverage, what documents to ask for. What a fantastic inspector! Due to various circumstances completely out of anyone’s control, we ended up having three different inspections done by Chris on three different properties within a few months. Each time he was thorough, exacting and incredibly helpful. Not only did he go through all the elements we needed inspected with impressive care and attention to detail but he also took the time to point out noteworthy elements of each property (for example: hand-carved decorative features or particularly well-kept wooden floors). We found Buyer’s Choice to be expensive and not very thorough. The previous owners had turned off the water. The inspector didn’t turn the water back on and thus didn’t test any of the faucets. We bought the house out of province so brought someone else in for another issue and they turned the water on and checked everything. Turns out to kitchen faucets leaked. The inspector wouldn’t test the windows since some were stuck with a bit of paint. After moving in thankfully we found they all opened. As with any inspector they seem to get really picky with basic stuff like the rubber feet missing on the stove top. That was a $5 fix. They also didn’t check the AC unit in the attic, since there wasn’t a walkway for them. I don’t know of many attics with walkways. Our energy auditor went up there just fine. Again someone else checked the AC unit and it all worked as expected. They missed some broken flashing on the side of the house, which resulted in leaks. That was a rough surprise with the crazy rains we had this summer.They did highlight some issues, which helped in our buying decision, so we’ll give them 3 stars. For the price they definitely could have been more thorough.

I recently used Scott’s services for 1 year Tarion warranty inspection of a new built. Overall I would rate the inspection service as average.It was a last minute google find for me based on Google ratings and Scott seemed to be a nice guy but based on my previous experiences with other home inspectors (who were very thorough and focussed), I was actually not impressed with the inspection. For eg. My previous home inspector (unfortunately he retired) used to climb into the attic and look for structure integrity, wiring ,etc. Scott being a big build guy , just popped his head inside the attic opening , took some pictures and that was it for his inspection. In general the whole inspection approach was very casual and did not look like someone who was trying to find any major issues, rather more interested in checking switches , appliances, and checking the inspection list off… which any normal home owner can do themselves. When we hire professionals , we expect them to look for structural issues and things that a normal home owner would not know so I was not impressed.

I chose Scott Craft for my home inspection based entirely on reviews online, and he certainly did not disappoint! He spent two hours inspecting a 1956 semi-detached and took the time along the way to answer all of my questions.
