Polydeukes, Polydeuces or Pollux is one of the Dioscuri or sons of Zeus. His twin brother is Castor. Polydeukes was known for his skills in boxing. His mother may have been Leda and his sister Helen. Nominally, therefore he may have been immortal. In this myth Zeus came to Leda as a swan and raped her. From this rape Castor, Helen and Polyduekes were conceived Homer mentions that every other day after his and Castor's death they would rise again and be afforded all the honors of gods.

Polydeukes was involved in three main adventures

  • 1. The expedition against Athens
  • 2. Jason and the Argonauts where he boxed the son of Poseidon, Amykos on the island of Bithynia
  • 3. Battle with the sons of Aphareus. In this battle Castor was fatally injured (He not being immortal as under some accounts he had a different father to Polydeukes) and Polyduekes prayed to Zeus that he should fall with him and for that reason he lives one day under the ground and the other with the gods.
